County schools awarded for tackling bullying

Schools in Leicestershire are to be awarded for the outstanding work they have done to tackle and prevent bullying.

Staff and students from a total of 17 schools will be presented with awards by Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Support Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service Graham Hart, at 11.30am on Tuesday, June 28th at Beaumanor Hall in Woodhouse.

In achieving the Beyond Bullying Award each school has demonstrated good practice across a range of areas from teaching about bullying, listening to pupils views, providing a range of support and demonstrating the commitment of the whole school to anti-bullying.

The work they have done includes supporting students to develop child friendly versions of their school anti-bullying policy, producing a school anti-bullying charter, developing peer support schemes in their schools and involving parents and school governors in anti-bullying work.

Beyond Bullying is a new pilot initiative run by Leicestershire County Councils anti-bullying team.

Early feedback from schools says they have developed and improved their anti-bullying work over the year, working more closely with both students and parents.

Sue Bosley, Leicestershire County Councils anti-bullying manager, said: Bullying can have such a devastating impact on peoples lives. Im delighted to see schools putting in so much hard work to address the issue and they fully deserve their awards.

As well as receiving their anti-bullying awards each of the schools has also achieved enhanced healthy schools status.
