Treasure and Romans are coming to Fleckney Library

Anyone interested in local history should flock to Fleckney Library throughout February, where they can see a small selection of the 2,000-year-old Hallaton Treasure for free.

There will be twenty beautiful gold and silver coins and a replica Roman helmet from this important and priceless archaeological discovery on display in the library until Saturday 26th February, along with fascinating insights into the rest of the treasure, its Iron Age origins and accounts of the people who unearthed it.

And as half term begins Roman soldier Flavinus and an Iron Age woman named Seren will also be visiting Fleckney Library to share their knowledge of the Hallaton Treasure.

You can meet these ancestors on Saturday 19th February from 10am until 4pm and ask them about what life in Leicestershire was like 2,000 years ago. There will be children's story times at 11am and 2pm and children can make a Roman helmet, Iron Age jewelry, or even their own coin.

There will also be half term fun based on historical hats of all shapes and sizes at Market Harborough Library and Museum on Wednesday 23rd February.

At Hats, Hats, Hats, families can enjoy stories and activites in the library before moving upstairs to the Harborough Museum to make their own head wear based on the stories behind the museums various exhibitions.

Two free sessions will take place from 1pm until 3pm and from 2pm until 4pm, and is for primary school children and their carers. For more information and to book your place visit the library or ring 01163053627.

David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council Lead Member for Adults & Communities, said, Events like these across libraries in the Harborough area keep visitors of all ages stimulated and entertained, and for little or no cost.

For further details of these and other events, please contact Gail Scotchbrook on 01163053636, visit www.leics.gov.uk/libraries, or visit your local library.
