24 November 2010Christmas fun at Leicestershire's award winning museums!

Leicestershires museums will make this a Christmas to remember this year with dozens of fun and exciting events for the whole family. From Christmas fayres, exhibitions, Santas grotto and even a pantomime theres something for everyone!

Below are just some of the events that will help everyone get into the festive spirit:

Bosworth Battlefield

Visitors can enjoy the Bosworth Battlefield Christmas Fayre on 1st December from 4pm to 8.30pm, where you can enter into the festive spirit with an evening of mulled wine, mince pies and carols around the Christmas tree, plus stall and the gift shop offering great gift ideas for all the family, Santa will be here to meet the children and there will be guided walk at 7pm. On 26th December there will be a Battle of Bosworth Guided Walk at 2pm and for information on these event please ring 01455-290429.

Melton Carnegie Museum

The museum has a touch of the Xmas Factor on Saturday 11th December at 10.15am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 2,45pm, where cracking Christmas craft activities will be available for children aged 5-12 years. Free admission. The museum which is free is open until 12 noon on 24th December and then re-opens on 30th December at 10am, for further information please ring 0116-305-3860.

Charnwood Museum

Theres festive fun for all the family with a free Christmas Craft day on Saturday 11th December. Drop in between 10am & 3pm and have a go at making a pop-up Christmas Card or a simple origami Christmas decoration. On Wednesday 22nd December there will be a Victorian Christmas Lanterns Childrens Workshop with sessions at 10.15am, 11.45am and 1.30pm. 2.50 per child, please book a place in advance. The museum which is free is open until 3pm on 24th December and then re-opens on Saturday 8th January and for further information or to book for the workshop please ring 01509-233-754.

Donington Le Heath Manor House

On Friday 3rd December the great chamber, which will be decorated with traditional greenery, will be filled with early music as Galliarda play a matinee performance of 15th to 17th century music at 3pm and an evening performance at 7.30pm. Tickets for this atmospheric event are 12 adults 10 Concessions

On Saturday 4th December and Sunday 5th December Donington Le Heath Manor House presents A Victorian Christmas at The Manor. From 11am to 4pm visitors can celebrate with music, readings, games and talks on Christmas past. This is a free event. On 7th December the house is hosting A Victorian Lady and Christmas at 7.30pm, an evening talk complete with the ladys butler, Dithering. The cost is 3.50 and places are going fast. Harborough Museum

On Friday 10th December the museum is hosting the Get into the Christmas Spirit event, where you can see the Roman festival of Saturnalia in full swing or the splendour of a Tudor Christmas. Late night shopping in Market Harborough is on this evening and the museum is open until 9pm and admission is free. From Saturday 4th December visitors can discover the origins of many of the Christmas traditions. The museum is open until 23rd December and then reopens on Tuesday 29th December. Snibston

On 4th, 5th,11th and 12th December this award winning venue will be running Holly Wreaths workshops, where materials are provided along with mulled wine, hot and cold drinks and mince pies. Pre-booking is essential and places are 14 each. The Dick Whittington Christmas Pantomime is running from 9th to 14th December in the Century Theatre. On Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th December, Saturday 18th and Thursday 23rd December from 1-4pm and on Christmas Eve from 10am to 2.30pm, come and meet Santa at his Snibston grotto, 4 per child.
