Mystery Shopper Credits Harborough Museum!
Posted on 22/11/10

Leicestershires award winning Harborough Museum has yet another achievement under its belt, Accreditation to Visit Englands Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme. The nationally recognised standard is awarded after a visit by a mystery shopper, and requires the attraction to show an ongoing commitment to improving customer service.
Harborough Museum also celebrates its busiest year ever. Since re-opening last September the museum has notched up over 24,600 visits to date. The museum also boasts great success for school visits with over 1,600 children attending six different sessions including how we used to live, the Hallaton Treasure, and Remembrance.
David Sprason, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for Adults and Communities, said: This is great news for Harborough Museum and all the staff and volunteers working there. It shows their commitment to improving the quality of the services provided, and in their busiest year ever!
The VAQAS Accreditation comes hot on the heals of renewed Accreditation to the national standards for museums set by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), Highly Commended for Best Exhibition for the Hallaton Treasure displays at the East Midlands Heritage Awards, and the Silver award for Best Small Attraction in the East Midlands Tourism Enjoy England Excellence Awards.
There is still time to see the Battle of Naseby exhibition now on until 16th March. Developed in partnership with the award winning Battle of Naseby Project, and the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon, the displays include original artefacts brought together for the first time.
On Friday 10th December Harborough Museum will join in the Market Harborough special late night shopping event with Get into the Christmas Spirit, with a special competition supported by the Friends of Harborough Museum and activities that discover the origins of many of the Christmas traditions. The activities will be available in the Museum until 3rd January.
Harborough Museum is open Monday to Saturday 10.30am to 4.15pm.
Admission is FREE. Harborough Museum entrance is in Fox Yard to the rear of the Council Offices in Market Harborough. Further details about the Museum are available on the website www.leics.gov.uk/harboroughmuseum or please phone Harborough Museum on 01858 821085.
- For more information about Harborough Museum please contact Zara Matthews, Keeper of Harborough Museum, on 0116 305 3640 or 01858 821087, or email zara.matthews@leics.gov.uk
Harborough Museum is operated in partnership by Leicestershire County Council, Harborough District Council and the Market Harborough Historical Society.
Visit England's Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS) was launched nationally in 2001. It is a consumer focused quality assessment service for all types of visitor attractions. It helps to identify strengths of an attraction and highlights development areas based on industry examples. A wide range of attractions of all sizes, both large and small, throughout England have benefited from participation in the service. More information is available at www.enjoyengland.com
