Ofsted praises childcare in Leicestershire
Posted on 27/10/10

Leicestershire childcare providers are celebrating their Ofsted ratings.
Latest figures show 78% of reception and nursery classes in schools, 71% of nurseries and pre-schools providing day care and 62% of childminders have been rated in the top two categories good or outstanding by Ofsted.
The criteria used to inspect childcare were changed by the previous Government in September, 2008. Childcarers have faced more stringent inspections since the new Early Years Foundation Stage Framework was introduced.
Leicestershire County Council works with childcare providers to give them advice and guidance on policies and procedures to ensure young people make the best possible start to their learning.
The County Council works with childcare providers in all Leicestershires districts: Melton, Oadby & Wigston, North West Leicestershire, Charnwood, Blaby, Harborough and Hinckley & Bosworth.
Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Councils Cabinet Member for the Children and Young Peoples Service, said: It is a credit to Leicestershires childcarers that so many of them have embraced the new framework and achieved such excellent ratings.
The inspections they face are more stringent than they were previously and it is clear from the Ofsted ratings they have been given that childcarers hard work is paying off.
