County museums honoured by awards
Posted on 01/07/08
P. Klein

A war time weekend, celebrations of village history and a scheme to restore canal locks are among the finalists in a county museums award.
Volunteers and museum professionals from Leicestershire and Rutland will attend the County Councils Renaissance Heritage Awards at the Stenning Hall in Hallaton on 24th July, to find out which local museums have won.
Many of these museums rely on grants and donations to survive and all contribute to the preservation and display of Leicestershires rich and varied heritage. Most are run entirely by volunteers.
Ernie White, the County Councils Cabinet member for museums, said: These awards recognise the hard work and achievements of Leicestershires museum volunteers. It is very encouraging to see so many entries for 2008 demonstrating the range and wealth of heritage activity throughout Leicestershire.
These Awards provide recognition of the hard work and achievements of volunteers in our local communities throughout the county."
All entrants are members of the Leicestershire and Rutland Museums Forum. The County Council supports these groups by providing professional advice and information through the Community Museums Officer and grant support through the Shire Grants programme.
